Knowledge & ritual

What is ceremonial cacao?

Ceremonial cacao is the whole cacao bean, simply ground. Hand-harvested, fermented, gently dried and traditionally stone-ground.

Classic cocoa powder is usually defatted and processed. This removes part of the natural cacao butter as well as valuable vitamins and minerals, while sugar and other ingredients are added. With us, the result is a creamy, full-bodied cup with the character of the whole bean.

What's behind the price

Let's do the math

Here is a simple example calculation, based on a real example from a well-known chocolate brand:

Drinking chocolate at the store
€14 for 250 g€56 / kg
Cacao content per label: 32%80 g cacao
If €14 buys 80 g of cacao, then≈ €175 / kg
Calculated down to the cocoa powder content, that equals:
≈ €175 / kg
And that isn't even comparable: this is defatted cocoa powder, not whole cacao. The rest is merely sugar and fillers. Origin, genetics and sourcing remain unknown.

Cacao-Lover · €52 for 454 g≈ €115 / kg
Normal · €32 for 227 g≈ €141 / kg

from €115 / kg
100% cacao, nothing removed, nothing added. Single origin, Criollo genetics, small farm, responsible sourcing, gently processed.

Ask a question →
What is ceremonial cacao?+

The whole cacao bean, simply ground: fermented, gently dried and stone-ground, with the cacao butter fully retained. That's why it's a block, not a powder, and makes a creamy, full-bodied cup.

How is it different from cocoa powder?+

Powder is defatted, nothing is removed from our cacao. On top of that, the origin: single origin from Guatemala, rare Criollo genetics, minimally and traditionally processed, no sugar or additives.

Why does it cost more than drinking chocolate?+

Because you're paying for 100% cacao, not mostly sugar. If you convert a standard drinking chocolate to its pure cacao content, it comes out higher than our price per kilo. The full calculation is further up.

How much cacao do I need per cup?+

10–15 g for the everyday ritual, 15–25 g for meditation, 25–35 g for a ceremony. With the dose calculator you can see how many cups your pack makes.

Is it bitter?+

Criollo is considered the mildest cacao variety: soft, fine, low in bitterness. Pure, it tastes rich and chocolatey. If you like it sweeter, add a teaspoon of honey or date syrup.

Can I drink it daily?+

Yes. At the everyday dose of 10–15 g, many people use it as a coffee alternative. It doesn't replace medical advice — if you have pre-existing conditions or take medication, please consult your doctor.

How do I store it, how long does it last?+

Cool, dry and away from light, not in the fridge. Unopened and properly stored, it lasts well beyond its best-before date. Colour and taste may vary slightly — that's part of being a natural product.

Slow down. Be present. Reconnect.
